A long weekend is the perfect excuse to enjoy a leisurely day out – and we know just the place! Hop in the car and enjoy the beautiful 4o minute drive south to Huonville. Roll down the window and breathe in the fresh country air as you cruise by rolling green hills, sprawling orchards, pretty vineyards and lovely farmland. Here are a few of our favourite things to do once you get there.

Explore the town
Go for a stroll along the main street and soak up the town’s character. Wander in and out of the eclectic collection of shops, selling everything from local craft and second-hand treasures to nifty stores to stock up on provisions. There are some delightfully quirky eateries to discover, so pop into one of the local cafes for a bite to eat. If it’s a warm day, you might enjoy a refreshing dip at the local pool! For travel tips and answers to all of your questions, stop in at the Huon Valley Visitor Centre. While at the visitor centre, channel your inner Pooh Bear and sample the local honey at The Honey Pot.

Enjoy the water
Huonville is located on the banks of the scenic Huon River, which is a hub of activity. Enjoy a picnic or BBQ by the river and make friends with the lovely ducks. Unwind with a relaxing walk along the picturesque foreshore, do a spot of fishing, or head out on the water in a kayak or boat. Thrill-seekers will get a kick out of an exhilarating ride with Huon River Jet Boats.

Taste the Huon
Every year, the best of the region’s food, wine and entertainment comes together for a weekend of festivities celebrating the region’s finest. This year’s Taste of the Huon is on from Sunday 12th to Monday 13th March at nearby Ranelagh. Wine lovers, swing by the Home Hill Winery, Hartzview Vineyard and Nandroya Vineyard stalls to taste their drops. With the Huon Valley’s rich apple growing heritage, don’t miss the cider – try the delicious range at the Willie Smith’s and Frank’s Cider stalls. There’ll also be heaps of food to choose from, so it’s probably best to go over several meal times (we’re particularly excited to see what Fat Pig Farm have on offer). For the best view, go sky high with a Rotor-Lift Aviation scenic helicopter flight.
